What to Take On the Plane?

When was the last time you said, “do I have everything?,” only to return to the internet and type, “what to pack for vacation?”  A million ideas pop up of what you should/shouldn’t pack in your luggage, but what about your carry-on?  With a long flight ahead, you’ll need more than water/juice or soda, a small in-flight meal, and a blanket to make an 8 hour flight fly by.

Here’s my list of what you will need:

Liquids & Medications - Prior to departure, check out TSA’s 3-1-1 rule for liquids.  Your basic in-flight necessity kit may include medicine, lip balm, deodorant, etc.…  Take an empty water bottle.  Fill it up once you pass through security.  Water is expensive at the airport!

Food & Snacks - If your snacks are pretzels, potato chips, dried fruit or other dry goods, you can take them in your carry-on or checked bag. Snack items that are liquids or gels, like pudding, jello or yogurt, etc., falls under the TSA’s 3-1-1 rule  for liquids for carry-on bags. They can be transported in checked bags. Snacks can be expensive if purchased at the airport!

Sleep Aids - Don’t forget to bring a neck pillow and an eye mask; even sleeping tablets may help.

Portable Battery Chargers - If you plan on watching a movie, play games, or listen to music on your phone, tablet, or computer you will need extra power. There are many types and sizes for all devices at your local electronics store.

Reading Material - If your eyes get tired of staring at a computer or mobile device it’s a good idea to have a backup magazine or novel at the ready.  It will also be handy if your battery dies.

Mobile Device Entertainment - Wi-Fi is not always available on every airplane, so plan accordingly.  Download your favorite movies, music or reading material to your mobile device prior to departure.

Noise-Canceling Headphones & Earplugs - In-flight distractions are inevitable. However, your choice of headphones will make a difference not only for you, but those around you. Noise-Canceling headphones will not only keep the noise from coming in, but also going out.  If your plan is to take a well-deserved nap, a simple pair of earplugs will do the trick.
